Day 17 of The Soul Fast with Cassandra Mack

Cassandra Mack’s Soul Fast 40-Day Challenge

Day 17

Fasting From Negative Emotions

Today’s Fast: Today We Are Fasting from the emotion of…Revenge

Romans 12: 17-21  reminds us of this …. “Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

This is one of the most difficult scriptures to live out in our daily lives because when someone does us dirty, the natural inclination is to want to get even. But we are given this scripture for a reason: To empower us to let Vengeance be God’s and not take matters into our own hands whenever we feel inclined to repay evil with evil. This one is a real struggle for me personally because I don’t like people thinking that they can mess me over and get away with it. But what I am slowly but surely learning is that no one really gets away with anything; because whatever a person sows in life, he or she will one day have to reap.

When someone hurts or betrays you, you might feel the urge to cause them distress in return, but this is never a good idea, because it keeps you stuck in a cycle of negativity and it also keeps you in bondage to the person who hurt/betrayed/wronged you.

Gandhi once said, “An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.” Take a moment and just think about the possible consequences of a vengeful action – you might end up making a bad situation worse. You might put yourself in harm’s way or end up getting arrested, depending on the severity of your actions. What are you truly gaining by retaliating?

Whether you believe in it or not, karma makes a much better friend than foe. Make sure to stay on the right side of karma by allowing God’s spiritual law of reaping and sowing to work on your behalf.

When you are consumed with feelings of revenge it’s hard to think clearly and see beyond the hate. When your heart and mind are filled with thoughts, scenarios, schemes, plots and plans of payback, revenge and retaliation; you become spiritually and creatively blocked …restricting the flow of happiness, peace, clarity, ingenuity and prosperity to flow freely into your life.

You only get one life to live. Why waste your life on revenge and retaliation?

Today is a new day!!!

It’s new because the sun has risen this morning.
It’s new because you have arisen to meet it.
And the risen version of you has the power and capacity to rise to the occasion and handle your business for today.

Remind Yourself: Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12: 17- 21)

PRAYER: You can pray the scripture from today’s message or you can pray about anything that’s on your heart.
