This week I've been praying for you and your family. And I felt led to share a few words with you today.
No doubt you're being bombarded with headlines, breaking news, and texts about the Corona virus as it spreads across the globe. No question ….you should use common sense to take precautions to stay healthy and stay informed, but there is something else happening here that I want to address. I am noticing that "FEAR" of all of the “What If’s” is spreading faster than the Corona virus and causing people to feel paralyzed and overcome with anxiety and dread. Know this: fear does not come from God.
Fear is a weapon that the enemy uses in the lives of those who submit to it. I’m encouraging each of us as believers to take a stand against the panic and hysteria (the fear) and be an example of how Believers deal with crisis …including a health crisis. As your YouTube partner in ministry I want to remind you of a few things. As Believers, we should be concerned and take every possible precaution, but we should not live in fear. Faith is your shield. (Ephesians 6: 16) reminds us to put on the shield of faith to extinguish the fiery darts from the enemy and in this case the enemy’s dart is “immobilizing fear.”
Remember the purpose of your FAITH SHIELD is to protect your mental health, emotional energy and your spiritual resilience. When feelings of fear, anxiety, and worry try to overtake your mind, start renewing your mind in the moment by speaking God's Word over your life and the lives of your loved ones. Because when faith becomes your shield, fear cannot overtake your sound thinking. As Christians, in times of uncertainty, we are to look to the Bible for words of comfort and inner strength.
In John 14: 27 Jesus says ….“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” Jesus knew that fear paralyzes us and hinders our ability to respond effectively to challenges, crisis and emergencies. Instead of allowing FEAR TO PARALYZE YOU, CHOOSE TO ALLOW CONCERN TO MAKE YOU TAKE PROACTIVE PRECAUTIONS. Here are what I am calling the The 3 P’s of PROACTIVE PRECAUTIONS 1. Practical. 2. Prayerful. 3. Proactively Prepared
1. Be Practical
We have to take this virus seriously. And all of the health and medical professionals are saying the same thing: try to avoid close contact with people who are sick, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, stay home if you feel sick, wash your hands frequently for 20 seconds, If you can, avoid any unnecessary travel. The CDC has published a helpful prevention guide, which you can reference for tips on how to protect yourself and your family from the virus. CDC
2. Be Prayerful
This cannot be emphasized enough right now. We need to call out to God almighty and ask for divine intervention to protect our country and its citizens. We need to pray for those who are infected that the Lord would touch them. We need to pray for everyone who is on the front lines of this pandemic—from medical professionals and others who have been tasked with responding to this crisis.
3. Be Prepared As Best As You Can
There are two ways we need to be prepared for the corona virus:
*Practically…The first is to be practically prepared in case of an emergency. Stock up on groceries and other essential items, if possible, set aside some cash for any unexpected expenses. *Spiritually….We also need to be prepared spiritually for this threat. Crisis such as these put life in perspective: am I in a right relationship with God? Right now is the time to have a personal relationship with God through Christ.
If we turn to God, then no matter the outcome we can replace fear with faith. I am leaving you with 3 scriptures below for you to meditate on, speak out loud and even memorize when fear creeps up on you and tries to run your life! You can get a grip on fear so that it does not rule your life. Know that I am praying for you and rooting for you to win every day and I ask that you do the same for me! This is a time where we need each other.
- (John 14: 27) …”Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
- (Joshua 1: 9) …”Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
- (Psalm 34: 4) ….”I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
