Day 18 of The Lent Soul Fast With Cassandra Mack

Cassandra Mack’s Soul Fast 40-Day Challenge

Day 18

Fasting From Negative Emotions

Today’s Fast: Today We Are Fasting from the emotion of…   Envy

Envy - a feeling of discontent or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or life.

Have you ever been envious of someone else? Be honest! Have you ever thought to yourself: Why her and not me or Why him and not me?

Envy is a sneaky little emotion in that, it can sneak up on you when you least expect it; even when your life is going well and you are immensely blessed in your own right.

Proverbs 14: 30  tells us this about the emotion of envy…“A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.”

Let’s think about what this scripture is saying: This scripture uses the metaphor of a sound heart giving life to the body and envy being rotten to the bones to convey how toxic the emotion of envy is and what envy does to us on the inside…mentally, emotionally and spiritually, if we don’t get a handle on it.

Essentially what this scripture is saying is, when your heart is sound or in the right place, you feel alive, hopeful about your own life and you’re able to celebrate other people’s success by rejoicing when they rejoice. But on the flip side, when our hearts and minds are rotting away with envy it gets in our bones so to speak – meaning it eats away at our joy, our purpose and our peace of mind down to the bone.

The fact that envy is not only compared to the bones but to rotting bones, implies that when your heart is in a state of envy or when you are harboring the spirit of envy, your soul is in a state of mental and emotional decay, even your will to rejoice with those who rejoice starts to decay. When your bones are rotting with envy, your happiness starts to decay, your peace of mind starts to decay, your commitment to your goals starts to decay, your character and integrity start to decay, your hope starts to decay and your relationship with the person whom you are envious of, starts to decay.

Don’t allow envy to make you rotten to the bone. Instead learn to celebrate the success of others and embrace your own success, so that you can begin to see that there is never a valid reason to be envious of anyone. What God has for you is for you. God has blessings and favor in store for you, but you have to release the envy in order to see your own blessings with greater clarity and appreciation.

Today is a new day!!!

It’s new because the sun has risen this morning.
It’s new because you have arisen to meet it.
And the risen version of you has the power and capacity to rise to the occasion and handle your business for today.

Remind Yourself: “A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.” (Proverbs 14: 30)
