THE CRAZY THING ABOUT THE SPIRIT OF OFFENSE IS THAT IT KEEPS YOU PERPETUALLY OFFENDED

The crazy thing about the spirit of offense is it convinces you that you’re protecting yourself, when it’s actually imprisoning you.
It often pairs with the spirits of pride and hyper-vigilance to ensure you remain overly suspicious, and constantly on the defense. It makes you interpret every comment, delayed text, or shift in tone as a personal attack. Offense teaches you to build walls and call those walls “discernment.”
Here are 5 signs you are bound by a spirit of offense:
You keep a mental ledger of every slight. You don’t just remember what people did; you nurse and rehearse it. You can recall the exact date, time, and tone of voice someone used five years ago and there is never any room for grace.
You cut people off over minor-disagreements. The moment someone expresses a different opinion or forgets a minor detail, you decide they are “toxic” and block them. You call it protecting your peace, but it’s actually avoiding the vulnerability of communication.
You require people to walk on eggshells. Everyone in your life has to carefully word their sentences because they never know what’s going to trigger your offense. You mistake your emotional volatility for high standards.
You twist neutral situations into intentional disrespect. If someone doesn’t say hello fast enough, doesn’t invite you to a casual outing, or gives constructive feedback at work, you convince yourself they are actively plotting against you.
You use “calling people out” as a weapon. You pride yourself on “calling people out,” but when you do so it’s almost always because you were offended by them because you couldn’t have your way.
Offense keeps you trapped in a cycle of constant friction and isolation. Proverbs 19:11 tells us that it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. Real spiritual maturity isn’t never feeling hurt—it’s refusing to let hurt dictate your behavior!
