Have you ever heard that phrase during a job interview or from a manager at work?
At first glance, it sounds positive. Most people want to work in an environment where they feel supported, valued, and connected. But before you interpret that statement as a sign of a healthy workplace, it may be worth taking a closer look.
The reality is that not all families are healthy. Some are supportive and nurturing. Others struggle with poor boundaries, unhealthy expectations, manipulation, or guilt-tripping. The same can be true in workplace cultures.
When a company describes itself as a family, pay attention to the culture behind the words.
The real question isn't whether they call themselves a family. The real question is how they treat and interact with each other.
